Phrickin' Photoblog Phriday-From Parts Unknown...

And so, after a week filled with...stuff...and things...I am once again about to present to you a collection of photographs which, while they may not have deep significance, at the very least will easily convey the fact that I was once a total geek about professional wrestling. Yes, kids, today's Phrickin' Photoblog is made up of some of the photographs which my sister and I snapped while at the WWF (and AWA) wrasslin' matches which my mom took us to when we was all young (and stuff). If you're into "old school" pro wrasslin', these pictures will surely bring back memories, the likes of which not even professional therapy would be able to suppress. Yes, soon enough, you'll be piledriving and body slamming everything in sight...Don't say I didn't warn you...Just try not to hurt yourself. You're "old" now, after all...Anyhow, ON WITH THE VIEWING!..

Nikolai Volkoff
What better way to start today's photoblog than with the baddest of the bad guys from the WWF of the 1980s, that enemy of the people: Nikolai Volkoff. Myself, I never cheered for the "good guys" and, even though his character was supposed to represent all that we as Americans were supposed to fear during the Reagan era, I couldn't help but like the guy...This was taken at the Denver Auditorium Arena in 1986...Volkoff squared off against Corporal Kirschner, if I'm not mistaken...

'Rowdy' Roddy Piper
Ah, here now is easily my favorite of the 1980s wrasslers, that Canadian Scotsman "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. I was, in fact, so enamored with the Piper character that I dressed up as him for Halloween in 6th grade with kilt, homemade "Hot Rod" shirt and all...Turns out he's from like...Saskatoon...Not Scotland...My whole childhood was a lie...Thanks, WWF...Thanks a lot...

Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart
Here's a picture of an exhausted Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart being led from the ring by the event staff. The lead guy looks pretty psyched to have Ol' Jim touchin' him...Hell, in the picture there he looks like he' positively about to piss himself...Nice pink tights, jimmy...Nice goatee, too...Is it just me, or does the Anvil kind of look like an odd combination of both of the Mythbusters? Eh...Maybe it's just me...Anyway...

Dead Man Walkin'
Hey, here we are at the old Broadmoor World Arena and CURT HENNIG IS STARING AT ME! Quit it out, Curt! Actually, this is pretty rare, for one of the wrasslers to make eye contact when you were snapping photos. Hennig's dead, though...As such, you have to wonder: did this photograph steal his soul? I'm particularly fond of the half-assed "not quite thumbs-down" that the person to my left was trying to give Mr. Hennig...Way to take a stand, kid...

Leapin' Lanny
This here is that Leapin' lanny Poffo fella' before he turned all "bad" and became "the Genius" with his poetry and his robes and all of that...Me, I'm partial to the old Lanny, the one that jumped and flipped and spun and wore sparkly shorts...Frankly, Lanny's lookin' a little bloated in this here picture...Perhaps he'd been on a burger and beer bender the night before the matches...As an aside, did you know that this guy's still like ACTUALLY writing poetry and crap? Seriously, you can see it on his website...Disturbing...

Duggan, Dibiase and 'Virgil.'
Ooh, here we have big-time, action packed excitement! Remember Ted Dibiase and his Million Dollar Dream finishing move? Remember "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and his 2x4? Remember that "Virgil" guy? Somethin' about that whole 2x4 thing is eerily similar to the kid that has the pet plank in Ed, Edd & Eddy...Anyhow, you best watch your back, Hacksaw! IT'S A TRAP! Nice bowtie, Virgil...

Davey Boy Smith
Davey Boy Smith. British Bulldogs. He's dead now.

BEEFCAKE!
Ok, say it with me (like Cartman)...BEEFCAKE! Yeah, it's Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake with his "I'm secure in my manhood" little...armlets...or whatever whose things are...Note the concern with which the older gentleman in the background is eyeing ol' Brutus...Well, it could be concern, or it could be something entirely different...Hmmm...

Anyway, that's it...You all have a fine weekend now!
